About the Film

History

In 2021, Blaise Mulhauser, director of the Jardin Botanique de Neuchâtel, and his collaborator Elodie Gaille, curator of ethnobotany, approach filmmaker Orane Burri, known for her committed documentaries, particularly on ecological issues.

They wanted to give her carte blanche to make an independent film in connection with their forthcoming exhibition on plants and the economy: business plantes.

A collaboration of over two years ensued, during which exchanges and discussions with members of the Botanical Garden enriched the director’s questioning and enabled her to focus on one theme: the forest. Ours, Switzerland’s, with its own challenges and over 150 years of sustainable management, and, quickly, the limits of this management and the questions it raises at local and international level…

In the end, the film was shot over two years in the heart of the Neuchâtel forest, giving a voice to its players and to climate specialists from around the world: such as Juliana Gatti, researcher on carbon absorption in the Amazon rainforest (INPE Brazil), Steve Jucks, head of Nasa’s greenhouse gas observation program (USA), Jean-Michel Gobat, world soil specialist, and Puwe and Rosane Chucucaichi, ambassadors of the Punayawa people (Brazil).
